The Xavier Institute of Engineering, Mumbai was established in the year 2005 by the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Fathers). It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, recognized by the Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra and affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
The establishment of the Engineering College is largely due to the vision of the late Fr. William Borges, S.J. He was the Principal of St. Xavier Technical Institute at Mahim, forty years ago. He had the vision to develop this place as a Center of Excellence for Engineering education. The Xavier Institute of Technology was Founded in 2005 and is managed by the Society of Jesus (Jesuit Fathers) founded in 1540.

60% of the students get placed. Tech Mahindra takes maximum students. Patni, Infosys, Accenture and Quinox are the other major companies. The placements and salaries offered are just about average. It is said that Panasonic recruited a student from EXTC and offered 12 lakh p.a.. Hope it's true.
